What is Creapure? 

"Creapure" is a brand name. It was created by AlzChem Trostberg GmbH in Germany and refers to a patented form of creatine monohydrate that is characterized by exceptional purity. If a creatine product bears the label "Creapure®", it contains this patented creatine form as the raw material. (The respective manufacturer must maintain a trademark license agreement with AlzChem Trostberg GmbH accordingly). Examples of creatine products containing Creapure are Creapure Creatine from EVERBUILD, Pure Creatine from Weider and Creatine Creapure from NP Nutrition. 

What distinguishes Creapure? 

Producing creatine synthetically is a multi-step process. In the course of this process, various waste materials are produced, some of which are later also contained in the final product - they must be filtered out in the final production step. These waste materials include dihydrotriazine, dicyandiamide, thiourea and mercury. All of these substances are not beneficial to health, to say the least: mercury is toxic above a dosage of 1.6 micrograms per kilogram of body weight, and the other substances are suspected of being carcinogenic (dihydrotriazine, thiourea) or of releasing hydrocyanic acid in the stomach (dicyandiamide). Nevertheless, some manufacturers do not filter the creatine for cost reasons - with the result that many creatine products on the market contain traces of the harmful substances mentioned. 

The process patented by AlzChem Trostberg GmbH for obtaining creatine ensures that the end product is practically free of undesirable substances. In addition, the production of Creapure is certified according to the IFS FOOD food certification standard, a standard recognized by the "Global Food Safety Initiative". As if that wasn't enough, Creapure is also 100% vegan, kosher, and halal certified.

Where and how is Creapure manufactured? 

There are different methods of producing creatine. AlzChem Trostberg GmbH uses the most elaborate method and has built a special creatine production plant for this purpose at its Trostberg site in Germany. The raw material produced in this plant is, in a sense, the "benchmark" in terms of quality and purity: of the few creatine versions produced at all in the Western world (most are produced in Asia), Creapure is definitely the highest quality. 

Difference Creapure and Creatine Monohydrate 

Theoretically, there is no difference between Creapure and Creatine Monohydrate, because Creapure IS Creatine Monohydrate. Practically, there is indeed a difference, and that is in terms of composition: commercially available creatine monohydrate has a varying degree of purity (usually between 96 and 99%), while the purity of Creapure - as already mentioned - is almost 100%. Incidentally, the degree of purity is influenced not only by the waste materials generated during production, but also by the decomposition of the end product: creatine is not too chemically stable, it decomposes in a liquid environment to creatinine. Creatinine is not harmful to health, but it has no benefit for the body either. According to AlzChem Trostberg GmbH, many random samples of creatine products from the competition show a creatine content of up to one percent, which suggests careless production or storage. One percent may not sound like much - but it means that as a purchaser of a 1,000-g can, you are actually buying only 990 grams of creatine monohydrate. In purely mathematical terms, 10 grams of the 1,000 grams, i.e. two complete daily doses of 5 grams each, are ineffective creatinine. 

Conclusion 

Creapure or monohydrate? Actually, everything speaks for giving preference to Creapure or to make sure when buying creatine that the selected product bears the Creapure® logo. Because: Without the Creapure® logo, the product may be good - with the logo, it is definitely good! By the way, those who prefer to take creatine capsules instead of creatine powder can still buy Creapure: There are Creapure powders as well as Creapure capsules. (An example of a good capsule product that contains Creapure is Creatine Capsules by Weider). On the other hand, Creapure is not a "must have" supplement. Some well-known supplement manufacturers, such as Olimp, have developed their own creatine quality standards - e.g. "Pure Pharm Grade" in the case of Olimp Creatine Mega Caps - which are in no way inferior to the Creapure standard.
